Harvest Operations Tour

On Saturday, July 23rd, staff from Medway Community Forest Cooperative will be hosting a forest harvest operations tour. The tour will include visits to a number of different stand types and highlight various strategies for promoting uneven-aged and diverse forests.

Of note, the tour will showcase a recent harvest where Medway completed its first special management trial for at-risk bird in partnership with Dr. Cindy Staicer at Dalhousie University. Last spring, staff placed remote acoustic monitoring devices in all of the upcoming harvest sites and Cindy’s team found a Species at Risk (SAR) bird in nearly every block. Knowing the bird is there if the first step to protecting and promoting it’s preferred habitat.
