Forest Management
Athol Forestry Cooperative Limited was established in 1977 as a co-operative of private woodlot owners in northwestern Nova Scotia. Athol employs a staff of dedicated professionals who work on behalf of the members to manage and develop their woodland. With more than 225 members, Athol Forestry manages in excess of 20,000 hectares of privately-owned forests. The cooperative provides a wide array of forestry services to landowners, including woodlot management plans and forest improvement treatments. Athol Forestry also provides consulting services to both members and non-members such as forest evaluation, wood marketing, boundary lines and measurement.

Since 1989, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) has been working to conserve New Brunswick’s most significant natural areas. Based in Fredericton, NCC has created more than 40 nature reserves — from the Acadian Peninsula in the north, to the island of Grand Manan in the south. To date, with the help of conservation-minded landowners and community supporters, we’ve protected more than 8,925hectares (22,054 acres) of this province's most ecologically significant habitats.

NCC's work in the province dates back to 1971, with 210 hectares (more than 520 acres) conserved at Sight Point in Cape Breton’s Mabou Highlands. NORTH NOVA FOREST OWNERS CO-OPERATIVE LIMITED (NNFO) is a Forest Management Co-op incorporated in 1976. NNFO is owned and directed by its shareholders who take advantage of its services. The purpose of NNFO is to provide woodlot management and marketing services. The prime objective of the company is long term forest management. The services that the company provides makes it possible for woodlot owners to harvest mature timber and / or make improvements to their woodlots through various silviculture treatments.
